How we check

How we map stays, measure walking times, round guest ratings and decide what goes in a list. Open about what we show, honest about what we don't know.

What we show

  • Every place to stay we've mapped with at least 10 guest reviews gets its own page. Hotel-style stays and holiday parks with 25 or more reviews, and holiday homes and apartments with 100 or more, can appear in search results; the rest are listed but kept out of search to avoid thin pages.
  • Guest ratings and review counts come from our booking partners and are refreshed regularly. We round review counts down (for example, more than 2,900) and show ratings with one decimal.
  • Facilities are shown only when they're listed for a stay. If something isn't listed, we say nothing rather than claim it's missing.

Distances and walking times

Distances are measured from each property's location in a straight line. Under 2 km we show an estimated walking time: 15 minutes per km, rounded up to the next 5 minutes. Above 2 km we show kilometres, rounded to the nearest half kilometre. Walking times are estimates and your route may be longer. We never show drive times we haven't checked.

How lists are ordered

Most lists are ordered by guest reviews and rating combined, so well-tested stays come first. Pages about a venue or an airport are ordered by distance. Quick picks follow a stated rule, such as the highest guest rating with 200 or more reviews. Commission never changes the order.

Inspections

Where we haven't visited yet, our review is based on location data, facilities and guest feedback. Stays we inspect will carry an Inspected badge with the date and the editor's name. Until then, every stay shows Not yet inspected.

The Aussie Stay Score

We're building a score that combines location (30%), practical details such as parking and kitchens (25%), guest ratings (30%) and our own inspection (15%). We'll publish it once the method and data are complete.

Last checked

Every page shows the month the data was last checked. Spot something wrong? Tell us and we'll fix it.
